My teaching approach

How I would approach teaching English

It is certainly true that no comparative study has demonstrated the superiority of one method over another for all teachers, there are different methodology or approach in language learning which include:direct method, callan method, silent method, audio lingua method, grammar tranlation method, communicative method and suggestopedia method, as a teacher I will pick from all the methods i will be careful not to contradict my teaching methodology but I will emphasize my teaching of English through the use of communicative approach, since it entails the ability to use the foreign language appropriately in a specific situation.

Communicative approach tries to make the learner communicate with competent, students should be able to select a particular language and should know it when, where and whom they should use, it stresses the need to teach communicative competence as opposed to linguistic, one of the main challenges of communicative approach is to integrate the functions of language with the correct use of structures. The communicative approach emphasis on communication in that case it will help my student to use English language to express themselves, the classroom atmosphere is relaxed so my student will enjoy English lesson also there is room for group work, and the importance of comprehension is emphasized, errors are considered inevitable in the process of language learning therefore I will not correct every mistake but I will contantly evaluate student accuracy and fluency . The language skills (listening, speaking, reading and writing) are equally used in the developing of the specialised language and vocabulary relevant to the subject, to interpret questions and select relevant and appropriate material for response, to communicate and to work productively with other students.Communication strategies are ways in which the learner uses her linguistic to communicate fluently or to handle communication difficulty and learning involves mechanisms that the learners use to notice features in the input, compare these features with those that are currently part of their mental grammars or interlanguage  integrates the new feature in interlanguage.

A good teacher facilitates student learning by managing classroom activities for example reading and responding in the classroom, or creating room for the student to read alone, also student are communicators when you actively engages them in reading it makes the flow of learning easier. The main objective of learning is to enable the students to use the language to express their needs, I will assist the student in any way that motivate them because Motivating students is one of the greatest challenges teacher  face, it is true that as a teacher I  have little, if any, control over external factors that influence my students  behaviour and engagement, I will play a vital role in shaping what occurs in my classroom. In fact, my instructional choices can make a positive impact on student motivation. The degree to which a student is motivated to engage in an academic task is jointly determined by his/her expectancy for success and by the value that he/she has attached to a specific task. A Student can be successful if he/she apply reasonable effort and appreciate the value of the learning activities. I will further motivate the student by creating an optimal classroom environment that is conducive to learning through instructional behaviours.

My syllabus will clearly state the learning objectives, course goals, and student expectations for the course. Once the outline of learning objectives for the class meeting is perfect, rank them in terms of their importance, This step will prepare the teacher for managing class time and accomplishing the more important learning objectives in case the teacher is pressed for time. I will make my students know what they need to do to be successful in the class and achieve their personal goals. I will capitalize on my  students initial curiosity with an enthusiastic introduction of the course, This can easily be done by conducting class surveys or administering diagnostic tests to get a sense of what the students already know or believe about the course. These strategies can be used on first day of my class and also when introducing a new topic. I will give my students options in the classroom. I will empower them by giving them a sense of autonomy and helping them develop skills for self-directed learning, I believe that students motivation is increased if they feel that they have control of their learning outcomes. Students will rise to the expectations which are communicated by my level of engagement and interaction with them. This can be something as informal as using students’ names in class to a formal evaluation of their work, it will be a powerful influence on student performance.Letting the students know what they will be learning and doing in class will help keep them more engaged and on track. The teacher can share the lesson plan by writing a brief agenda on the board or telling students explicitly what they will be learning and doing in class. You can outline on the board the learning objectives for the class. Providing a meaningful organization of the class time can help students not only remember better, but also follow the teacher's presentation and understand the rationale behind in-class activities. Having a clearly visible agenda will also help the teacher and the students stay on track.

It is important to acknowledge that student motivation is dynamic. Through my own behaviour, course design and teaching practices, I will create classroom conditions that encourage engagement and motivation to learn on a variety of levels. By implementing an array of strategies that fit my teaching style and classroom environment, I believe that through this I can greatly stimulate and sustain students’ motivation to learn both in my classroom and within my overall subject matter.

On my person I will also Deliver my presentations with enthusiasm and energy,I will facilitate communication and establish situation that will promote communication since students are communicators, they are actively making themselves understand and understanding others even when the knowledge of target language is incomplet. I will always explain my reasons for being so interested in a particular material and activity, and make it relevant to my students concerns, get to know my students, Foster good lines of communication in both directions, Use humour where appropriate, Maintain classroom order and civility to earn my students respect as well as to create a positive learning environment.  Teachers' challenge is to work alongside the students, to know their interests and goals, and to develop trusting relationships that help students connect their learning to their goals in a way that motivates from within. I will also teach grammar inductively because it comes naturally.

Futhermore,It is an excellent idea to begin school by having our students set positive goals. Setting goals is a way of gradually building students' capacity to tackle the increasing challenges they are facing. The process of setting goals allows students to choose what they want to learn and what they want to achieve. By knowing what they want to achieve, they know what they have to concentrate on and improve. Goal setting gives students long-term vision. Understanding students goal and having clearly defined goals, will allow them to take pride in accomplishing those goals. They can see clear forward progress in what might have seemed a long drawn out process. By setting goals students can improve their academic performance, increase their motivation to achieve, increase pride and satisfaction in performance, and improve their self-confident.

Students should be active participants in class. By active, this means that students should contribute to classroom discussions by not only answering direct questions posed by the teacher, but answers questions posed by their peers, Students should feel free to ask questions, or express their own ideas about a subject, not only to their teacher, but also their peers, This allow students to construct their own knowledge about their learning, and apply it to their education.A student’s role is also to be motivated about their learning. This role is also tied to a teacher’s role as well. However, if students are truly interested in learning, it is their job to think. When thinking, students should be able to find some prior experience or knowledge to apply this new learning to. When doing so, they should mentally prepare themselves to learn more about this new concept or idea. Now, this does not always happen, but a student who wants to be actively involved in their education, should think. As the teacher’s role is now a facilitator the students role is to take given information or instructions and coordinate that task for herself/himself, and begin the task. The student must be a task monitor by checking himself/herself in terms of on task study time, noise level, and quality work. He or she should be responsible for gathering materials needed for an assignment, when given directions to where resources can be found. He or she should also put back materials when finished. Students take on the roles of coordinators, task master, noise monitor, and clean-up/maintenance. While all students take on different main roles, all students are still required to take part in the assignment and learning itself.

Finally, a teachers goal and objective in class is to make the student avoid the use of L1(first language), and language transfer(interlanguage) beginner of english learners tend to constantly use their first language and language tranfere but the teacher need to correct with passion having in mind that the student has not become fully proficient yet but is approximating the target language, Interlanguage is based on the theory that there is a "psychological structure latent in the brain" which is activated when one attempts to learn a second language.
