My teaching approach

My review of methods available when teaching leads me to believe that none  of them are particularly the perfect answer because it depends on the ability of the professor to apply each and I think a combination of them is a better idea but they all look to yield better results when performed with smaller attendances. I can start this paper by looking into a few of my favorites and providing the definition, listing examples or making a comparison but it must be noted that some of this information is subjective, evolving, etc. A new approach can be born any day and a slew of scientists, researchers, instructors or students will gravitate to it, more in hopes of financial gain, to say it works more than anything else in the market but IRONICALLY this brings me to mentioning my commitment to the Oxbridge System because it has already been developed, established, tested, etc. The process remains the same although there could be adjustments made in the future, the basis is still evident with a focus on communication.


My personal preference is the ( Charles ) Berlitz - Direct style, at this stage, because I come from little experience, especially in grammar, and talk no Spanish but hope to develop both in the next couple months. I can concentrate on productive skills with no translation using the Direct formula. A majority of schools are said to use this foundation, especially in oast instances surrounding the 1990's, and a walk I took this weekend seemed to confirm this, atleast here in Barcelona, because I noticed a institution with huge posters or displays on their windows advertising it. The younger kids are said to respond to this type of learning more than adults but this would be debatable if you was to alter your gestures, speed, tone, exercises or topics to suit a older crowd because this way is highly efficient considering time, interaction, priorities, etc. My point is that this eliminates a lot of hindrances that take valuable moments away from the lesson to wait for a pupil to document details, make notes, etc. I suggest having several pictures or be prepared with multiple charades and expect to assist the class by lipping some of the answers with them but not for them because this will help them to increase pronunciation. A secondary solution if a individual has trouble, would be to allow another one of their peers to help them because this encourages real life conversation in a circumstance where we need guidance from others. The material should contain vocabulary relevant to that group and their everyday life to keep their interest or introduce opportunities they see it useful after the lesson, such as eating at a restaurant that offers foreign cuisine, food, drinks, beverages, entertainment, etc. My very first statement on this page is reinforced here because I imagine this becoming tedious to conduct for over fifteen minutes at once and could then be a transition into another curriculum but can be resurfaced during the conclusion.


I found the Audio - Lingual, outline my next best choice because it builds memorization through drilling and can be accompanied with authentic text while avoiding too many direct questions, which can lower confidence, to the learners during practices that elicit repetition in sync together. A course with more emphasis on sentence patterns or structure rather than full explanations about the categorical composition of the language seems more attainable for me in the following weeks to the latter, which could require a huge amount of practice or examination to master full comprehension in my goal to adopt this career path as my professional career. The military is claimed to have had  originally designed this mode of education but abandoned it upon realizing soldiers needed to say more than simple phrases like, move away, surrender, etc. ( Reference - One Stop English . COM ) My plan would be to borrow philosophies from both of these first two although the Aural Oral, a pet name for the above described in this paragraph, has been challenged or discredited by Noam Chomsky in 1959. I can also make a strong argument for the Silent strategy because although it can appear childish and demands participation, it adds excitement when the speakers can visualize their mistakes. A supplemental benefit would be that errors are corrected with humor in an  attempt to assure everyone is a part of the fun, usually in a voluntary situation. The preliminaries necessary for this include advising them about the rules of the game prior to the beginning and this role play could continue for as long as you deem appropriate to guarantee all have contributed to the drill without losing too much interest from the rest of them. My energy and attitude compliment this design because this is questionably more targeted to intermediate or higher levels with some exposure beforehand but would only be effective after having a rapport with your clients, customers, etc. I also enjoy the flexibility to quiz them separately or progress as a whole in this manner. A comfortable environment is just as important as some of your topics and objectives in this case.


The entire matter of relaxation has been covered with the advent of  Suggestopedia, crafted by Bulgarian Doctor and Psychiatrist, Georgi Lozanov. My opinion here is that this would of been more accepted if it was imposed as a simple guideline instead of claiming it as some kind of science, despite any surveys, trials, etc. I want to support this activity because I too, promote revolutionary thinking and disagree with being coerced into authoritarian concepts but this has little to offer except the obvious in nature. A large portion of this fails to specifically state removing distractions while concentrating on surroundings that offer a cozy setting, but in essence, this is the ultimate outcome. The only problem here is that it can be exaggerated so much that the room becomes more of a social club with nothing to stimulate urgency, increase motivation, etc. My feeling here is that the average person will lose more than they gain when trying this routine but nonetheless, you still need to respect the thought behind it and instead of asking why maybe Why Not is the alternative. I say implementing this is far from difficult for me when I already anticipate trying to monitor such things like lighting, temperature, noise, distractions or interruptions and fresh air. A unique theory that strives to alleviate everyday stress or former predicaments during sessions by assigning all new identities and incorporates positive feedback as a core value.


The last remaining fashion that I can foresee me using immediately as I perfect my own intellect of English is called Total Physical Response. My thoughts here are limited because this is intertwined with many, if not all of the models. I think this is closest to actual acquisition.


A key to success lies in following a communicative approach and demonstrating an exceptional demeanor that illustrates confidence but in a way not seen as a threat. The lesson should be engaging with a clear objective obtainable for your level. My main task as a teacher is to be prepared and expect or anticipate areas that could cause trouble.


A teacher could know all the grammar they want but still be unsuccessful if they fail to understand or show initiative. The training at OXBRIDGE has been designed to qualify educators for certification to teach English but this is the minimum requirement and will only allow you to advance temporarily without seeking other resources, for your own enlightenment, outside of the class. My goal is to remain open to advice, such as constructive criticism and to continue to progress my knowledge of the language, while trying to learn the native accent here in Spain. A very important aspect of teaching is patience. The best thing I can suggest is to try and think of yourself sitting there confused, nervous or learning a new language. The children should be approached very carefully when dealing with correction and special attention needs to be given to those who prefer independent learning. My point is that some ingredients of teaching are beyond studying methodologies or approaches and are basic ideas that some fail to remember if they become over confident by their book smarts. A new teacher is just as valuable as a veteran if you take time to properly guide that individual and listen to any fresh ideas that a new recruit could bring to the table. The best thing to do is to think of OXBRIDGE as a team and not as a employer or to classify yourself as a independent contractor. My impression thus far, is that this is a company I can see myself growing with given a chance to to call on my trainers, colleagues or managers in the event I need personal assistance while I settle in Barcelona, Spain.
