My teaching approach

Teaching is not nessasaily a easy task or impossible to do. Finding your natural rythem as a teacher is something i bealive you develope with time. Each class is different as is every student. A teacher should go into a lesson with a clear idea of the lessons being taught for the day. Assesing the students levels and goals for the course i fell is important. Just like we are all different as humans we all learn in different way. A lower level student might have a better understadnment with visual learning such as pictures, overhead slides, hand outs etc. which a level 5 student might be more of a auditory learner best learning trought conversations, leactures and disscusssions. I felll being a guide to a student is key for learning and communicating effectively in english. As well as motivation is a student if frustated or lacks motivation they are less likely to particape as much. If your having fun while learning your going to be more intrigued while learning. Always stay possitive and praise your students for a good lesson. Correct a students mistakes and if you have a confident student use them to assist other sutdents. You want to try and keep your teacher talk time as low as possible. Letting students finesse there 2nd language and expressing their ideas is key. acents are almost irrelevant to english now and for adults learning a second landgague its almost imposible to have a native level accent. never the less always help a student the primary landguage for the class should be english. I would only correct the student in spanish if i felt it would be relevant to the students learning but pushing towards self correction is the goal. assesing the outcomes of class is a fudamental way of learing. you not only see the students progess but it also gives you a clear idea for preparing the next lessons. Just like teaching different age groups its all about adapting to the student capabilities and interest. using the syllabus for teaching can be very important depeding on a students level. you dont want to overwhelm a student with a bunch of syllabus if its their first day. when approching a lesson you have to be calm cool and collect sounds very easy, but can be very difficult. pretend its your first day in a forigne contry with no one you know or can communicate with. you'd poblably be scared, nervous or maybe a little overwheelmed. put your self in the students shoes and find out what helps them learn. building rapport is a huge part of learning at first its can be a little difficult for a student to adapt to a new teacher or accent. but like you've probably heared pactice makes perfect. develop a chemistry with the class let the student do the talking .the more the students talks ives you information for corrections and advice. finding you approach or method to teaching is key. for example the silent way method created by Caleb Gattegno in 1963,he based the method on his general theories of education. The method emphasizes learner autonomy and active student participation. the Silence was used as a tool to achieve this goal; the teacher used a mixture of silence and gestures to focus students attention, to elicit responses from them, and to encourage them to correct their own errors. if you ask me its a bit of harsh approach to teach or lead a class room, and evonthough the Silent Way is not widely used in its original form, its ideas have been influential, especially in the teaching of pronunciation. remeber dont be affraid teaching just like learning includes trial and error. Having fun is key trying to link your activities is important  you want the transitions to be as smooth as possible .key as much eye contact as possible between you and the student. You want them  to be engaged in the activities and for them to fell they have your full attention. No one wants to be talking an for the person your talking to be be busy or not paying attention . Think of it like this if the student is sitting in your class your fallowing your instruction they are there  to learn. Giving the student many different materials to work with can be very important maybe playing a few games or video.  if you are a new teacher you might want to give a text book a try. its a good way for new teacher or student to learn and try new lessons everything is organized for you. there can be many benefit from text books and a few down falls. they can be very good reading and writting excerusicess, on the down side they might no be very good for conversational english. use what you have your advantage. Find out if they want to learn english for academic purposes or maybe they are learning english for occupational purposes. (EAP) english for academic purposes is desgined for students or profesionals of all levels who plan to enter a college or university. they Want to succeed in a university classroom with native English speakers or Need to prepare for a proficiency test. (EOP) English for occupational purposes refers to how English is used in different work and professional situations. learners are taught according to their profession as a pre-experience or mid their work as a simultaneous or after starting their work as a post-experience. There are is a large range of possibilities within this field : Business English, English in Law, Medicine, Administration, Hospitality, etc. find out what your stundents needs are and help develop there weakness area for speech.
