P2 into, in to, onto, on to...

In to or INTO - On to or ONTO

INTO (preposition)

Into + object + modifiers of objects.

Examples:

  • She put the toys into the basket.

  • He walked into the room and found a mouse.

  • The prince turned into a frog.


In to

In a phrase In is an adverb followed by the preposition to.

For example:

  • Can you give this paper in to the office?

  • He wouldn't give in to their demands.

  • He gave his paper in to the teacher.


ONTO

Preposition meaning on top of (surface).

Examples:

  • He threw the book onto the floor.

  • He climbed onto the stage.


On to 

On (adverb) followed by the preposition to (in other words onward or toward)

Examples:

  • He forwarded the email on to the clients.

  • Students who pass their exams can go on to further education.
