Madrid has recently mentioned that it has plans to create a LOW-EMISSION zone in the city centre and would ban all cars from polluting the city. The suggested TOLL is similar to the ones implemented in other European coutries such as London, Milan and Germany – called the CONGESTION CHARGE.If this gets the GO-AHEAD then only certain cars that achieve the Euro lll emission standards or higher would be allowed in the city centre and the rest would have to pay.
German cities require Euro lV and Diesel Particulate Filters for vehicles – this is a strict ENFORCEMENT.
Residents in the city would be EXEMPT from these measures - as they are in London, because they live in the city centre and therefore would not be expected to pay.
However if this goes ahead it would have a major impact on daily commuters and business deliveries and could reduce revenue activity and SCARE people from coming into the city.
