Across the river......preposition



 

The preposition across talks about movement from one side to another, usually two-dimensional lines for example Room, or a River.

  • How are we going to get across the river?

  • The painting is across the room


Across can also be used to describe something that stretches from one side to the other. 



  • There were people lined up across the road. 

  • The policed put up barriers across the road.


Across can also be used to describe places that are opposite the speaker.



  • The Pharmacy is across the road.
