Tag questions can be difficult, can't they?

A tag question consists of two parts:

1. a statement and a short yes/no question.

2. the two parts are separated with a comma.

•  when the main sentence is positive, the tag is in negative - John is here, isn't he?


• When the main sentence is negative, the tag is in positive - John isn't here, is he?
