Confused For/ToFOR and TO - confusing words


Do you know how to use them correctly?

We use FOR and TO to talk about the purpose of action.

  • For + Noun

  • To + Infinitive


Example:



  • We went to the supermarket for milk.

  • We stopped at the service station for petrol.

  • We went to the theatre to watch a play.

  • I will go to London to see the olympic games. 



NEVER use FOR & TO together

  • I use a hairdryer for to dry my hair (Incorrect) X

  • I use a hairdryer to dry (infinitive) my hair 


We can also use FOR to talk about the purpose of something

FOR + ing

  • For running

  • For slicing

  • For cooking
