PAST Perfect Tense

USE:

  1. We use the past participle to talk about actions in the past.

  2. It is used to express that one event happened before another in the past.

  3. The tense should make it very clear which one happened first.

Subject + Had + Past Participle

  • I had been to Paris three times

  • When I arrived to class, Peter had gone out

  • They had never been to Paris until last year

What is the past/past participle of the verb GO?

Go ----> Went ----> Gone

  • I had gone

  • I hadn't gone

Questions:

  • Had you arrived?

  • Hadn't they arrived?
