Is graffiti vandalism or street art?

- Madrid has witnessed an increasing amount of Graffiti in the city recently.
- TAGS – are the names given to the graffiti we see – they are the initials of the artist and cover many walls, buildings and doorways of most cities, but not more recently so than in Madrid.
- Some of the oldest quarters of Madrid with beautiful buildings and features are now covered in tags and graffiti all over - and are slowly becoming scenes from video games with the MESS SPIRALLING out of control.
- Graffiti in most cities can be illegal and FINES are issued if the CULPRIT is caught. However like in London the art of Banksy has become popular, making a political statement more than pop art!
- However in other cities like Barcelona graffiti is looked upon as street art and is displayed and encouraged in some cases by the artist for all to view.
- You can see from these images that graffiti DEFACES property and is far from artistic but DISRUPTIVE and expensive to clean. Not exactly art is it?
What do you think of this?
